Ann Hunt

Ann Hunt was born in England where she began playing tennis at age 12 on grass courts, and won her first tournament when she was 14.  She played high school tennis for six years before competing in college at Durham University.

She was married and moved to the United States in 1964.  She coached tennis teams at St. Alban High School and in Auburn and Port Byron, New York.  Ann began playing singles and doubles in USTA Adult League tennis in 1981 and advanced to the sectional and national championships several times. 

Ann and her husband moved to Hilton Head in the early 2000’s and she began playing sanctioned local and state tournaments and competing with the South Carolina Senior Cup team.  She began playing sectional and national events in 2013, including competing on the USTA Southern Intersectional team.  Ann has traveled all over the United States to play on every surface.  Her accomplishments include:

  • Competed in singles, women’s doubles and mixed doubles
  • Won five national championships (gold balls), finished second (silver balls) nine times and third (bronze balls) nine times
  • Played on the South Carolina Senior Cup team 20 years
  • Played on the Southern Intersectional team 20 years
  • 2014 Slew Hester USTA Southern Female Player of the Year
  • 2016 USTA South Carolina Female Player of the Year
  • 2016 Pat Staley Distinguished Female Player Award
  • Captain of the USTA Southern 75’s, 80’s & 85’s Intersectional teams
  • Ranked #1 or #2 in both singles and doubles in South Carolina in her age division every year since the early 2000’s
  • Maintained a top 10 national ranking every year since 2013, including #1 in 75’s singles and #3 in 75’s doubles in 2018

She has served as the volunteer League Coordinator for Hilton Head Island Seniors, Adult Women’s Spring Leagues and Mixed Doubles Leagues for 20 years.

Ann is an unselfish teammate who plays under whatever circumstances might arise.   She is an encouraging doubles partner who never gives up and plays with energy, enthusiasm, sportsmanship and respect for her opponents.  She is well-loved by her teammates and her opponents, makes the sport fun for all she touches, and has given back to tennis as a volunteer, leader and player.
